Advanced Gantt Chart

What it does.

Project teams frequently need to track planned versus actual progress across a work breakdown structure, individual tasks rolling up into phases and phases into a full program, without losing sight of dates, dependencies, and risk at any level. Power BI has no native Gantt visual, leaving users to either rely on external project management tools or fall back to tables and bar charts that cannot represent hierarchy, dual timelines, or dependencies at all.

Advanced Gantt Chart solves this by rendering a task list, bound via a single self-referencing Parent Task ID field, as a full work breakdown structure. Parent and phase rows automatically roll up dates, progress, and milestones from their children live, with no manual entry or upstream DAX measure required. Every task shows a dual baseline and actual bar, so planned versus actual progress is visible at every level of the hierarchy, not just on leaf tasks.

Finish-to-start dependency arrows route automatically between tasks, with fan-out for multiple predecessors converging on one task. A Critical Path toggle flags the zero-slack chain through the dependency network without overriding the report's own legend coloring, and Pace Tracking shows whether an in-progress task is ahead, on track, or behind schedule relative to today.

Conditional formatting is available directly through Power BI's own native rule engine on the Data Colors card, letting report authors color bars automatically by any bound field with no custom DAX required. Milestones support multiple types per task, each with its own configurable shape, size, and color, and unlimited custom Details and Tooltip fields can be added beyond the standard task columns.

The visual supports Power BI's native interactions: cross-filtering, right-click context menus, rich tooltips, keyboard navigation, and high-contrast theming. A resizable, persisted WBS grid remembers expand and collapse state, column widths, and scroll position across sessions, and integrates naturally into any report without needing a separate project management tool outside Power BI.
